How to measure yourself for a bralette at home

Standard bra sizing. The number-and-letter system used by most lingerie brands. Does not translate directly to the way we size bralettes at Wave Grid Lab Pulse. Our pieces are sized by band circumference and cup volume separately, and each size is a distinct pattern. This guide explains how to take the measurements we actually use, and what to do with them.

What you need ¶

A soft measuring tape, a mirror, and someone to help if possible. Measurements taken alone are less accurate because it is difficult to keep the tape level at the back. Wear a thin, non-padded top or nothing. Do not measure over a padded bra. The padding adds volume that will throw off the bust measurement. Take each measurement twice and use the average.

The band measurement ¶

Measure around your ribcage, directly under your bust. The tape should be snug but not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers underneath it. Breathe out normally and take the measurement at the end of the exhale. This is your band measurement in centimetres. At Wave Grid Lab Pulse, our band sizes run from 64cm to 86cm in 4cm increments. If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend the smaller size for a firmer fit and the larger for a looser fit. On a fitting call, we will ask you which you prefer.

The bust measurement ¶

Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. Do not pull the tape tight. It should rest against the skin without compressing. The difference between your bust measurement and your band measurement gives us the cup volume. At Wave Grid Lab Pulse, we use this difference to determine the cup size within each band size. A difference of 10-12cm corresponds to our A cup, 13-15cm to B, 16-18cm to C, and 19-21cm to D.

What to do if you are between sizes ¶

Being between sizes is more common than being exactly on a size. If your measurements fall between two of our sizes, the fitting call is the right next step. We will ask you about your preferences. Whether you have found that standard sizing tends to run large or small for you. And make a recommendation. For some clients, a custom commission is the better option, particularly if the difference between two sizes is significant in one measurement but not the other.
